But while we wait for the results of that report, questions persist as to whether what happened to private Micha Miguel was an isolated incident or rather, just a classic example of the systemic abuses that have become the norm at the Price Barracks compound.
We put that question to Brigadier General Azariel Loria today but he says it's not systemic, just the result of a few badly behaved men among his ranks.
Loria says that BDF's position now is 0 tolerance for sexual harassment and abuse.

"In the past 2 years there's been a lot of talk about systematic abuses, sexual harassment and abuse within the army. What are some of the actions that have been taken to remedy that?"
Brigadier General Azariel Loria, Commander, BDF
"First of all, it would seem as systematic, but it's not systematic. There are some guys, our soldiers that are out there that tend to do things out of place, disrespect women when it comes to sexual harassment or other offences levied at our soldiers in the Belize Defence Force. We have been informing the Belizean public that we are not going to tolerate any such offences. Whenever we get the offences reported to us, we deal with it in a fast and effective way. We have conducted our directives and our policies for the BDF or what the BDF is concerned about is that we will not tolerate any more abuses when it comes to sexual harassment. Our current slogan is "Zero tolerance" for that and as you can see it is slowly dwindling. We are a reflection of society. We are trying to educate our soldiers. We have to provide equity, equality and respect amongst all of us - all those that serve in our defence force."
