The Hub Resource and Community Center is keeping kids busy over their break with a week of activities. Their Kriol Krismus Program will have basketball, volleyball, and even a video game competition, and players have a chance to win cash prizes. Today the manager at The Hub told us more.
Arthur Usher, Manager, The Hub Resource and Community Center
"We're wrapping up 2023 and our Christmas program is basically, it's a Kriol Christmas program, but we're doing four days of activities and so we're doing a 3 on 3 basketball competition today, tomorrow we're doing a 4 on 4 volleyball competition, Thursday we're doing a video game competition, and Friday we're doing the wrap up ceremony. So basically all in line with giving the kids something to do, keeping them active, keeping them engaged during the Christmas season."
"We do have our regulars, we have our members who come here everyday to do our after school program but we also invited other people, so we invited other teams from other schools, from other organizations to submit their teams, so we have about two of our regular teams and then we have about six from outside, all of our activities are gaged towards incorporating a wider base for our community so not just where The Hub is but we try to expand every time."
"I would say we're averaging about 70 to about 85 kids today and that would hopefully progress throughout the week, as we're catering for about a 100 on Friday."
"All the trophies and medals and prizes will be given out on Friday. We also have our official launching of our Hub members, so our members who have been here for a while and who can now benefit from being a hub member, they will be officially signed in on Friday, so that's the big event, and then we have our Christmas dinner, and we have some fun and games and everybody goes home."
They're anticipating that about 100 kids will compete in the various activities.
