We are 7 days into the 16 days of activism campaign against gender based violence, and when we spoke with Minister of State, Dolores Balderamos Garcia yesterday she acknowledged the complexity of the social violence phenomenon and said that awareness is a key antidote:

Dolores Balderamos Garcia, Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister

"I want to take this opportunity in the 16 days of activism against gender based violence to say that as our women's parliamentary caucus we are advocating as much as we possibly can and we are doing everything in our power to bring awareness the continued awareness to gender issues and to reducing as much as we possibly can the gender based violence."

"I think my message to the Belizean people, members of the media and general public is we must never give up, we must never give up because if we bring awareness to one more family to one more woman who would maybe want to leave a situation of violence, if we can bring that awareness and that empowerment we must do so and we must never give up the fight that would be my message."
