Earlier we showed you how the City Council is struggling to keep up with the problem of garbage collection. But it's not all bad news at City Hall. Today they today took time out to give a helping hand to some of the workers of BML and SEL. Through a donation from Alicia Rodriguez Hercel, a former Queen of the Bay who now resides in Florida, as well as other donors, the council secured some school supplies for the children of some of the sanitation workers. The donation will not exactly equip a child to go to school for an entire year, but Mayor Moya made much of modest picking; she says it=s all about looking out for those who work hardest for the city.

Zenaida Moya, Mayor of Belize City
"Because we at the City Council really really understand the work and the dedication of these workers. They work hard and like our council, we also understand the importance of hard work. And these workers, you see, they get up early in the morning and they give their all to this city of Belize and so I just feel that it is so important for us to give back. More of these efforts will happen because we've already contacted different friends abroad to ensure that they can assist us in further endeavors. So I am hoping that they will be much more of these that we will be able to give back more to them."

Moya says they are looking at securing similar donations from other benefactors abroad.
