Escuela Mexico in San Roman Village has been a battleground for months – but tonight, that situation is somewhat stabilized as principal Juanita Lucas and her vice principal have been suspended. 7NEWS has confirmed that at the order of the Chief Education Officer, they handed over to the second vice principal Ethel Hernandez yesterday and have left the school.

An investigation will now be conducted and specific charges will be leveled against the pair –and they will be given an opportunity to defend themselves against these charges at a hearing. The school with 500 students and 31 staffers has been embattled for months and at least three solid days of school were lost when teachers staged “sick-outs” in protest of the principal’s management style and practices.

The Ministry of Education had to intervene when the standoff between administration and staff became protracted – and the school board refused to intervene.
