Oil profits may be down on but on Wednesday the Belize National Energy Trust handed over close to a thousand chairs and two hundred desks to schools in the Belize River Valley area. The school equipment is used but for much neglected rural schools, it’s a lot better than what they have. Debbie Sewell is the spokesperson for the trust and she explained the trust’s funds come from 0.9% of BNE’s profits and it is co-managed by government and the oil company.
Debbie Sewell,
“BNE Trust is a trust set up by, which is a partnership with the Belize government and Belize Natural Energy. 0.9% of their revenues goes into a trust fund and the trust fund is set up to fund general education projects and environmental projects meaning community revitalization, rehabilitation, and anything that will help move a community to help sustainability.”
The donations will be shared among the 22 schools in the Belize River Valley.
