But the Valentine’s weekend does mean that there will be a Valentine’s Classic Bicycle Race. True, at this time last year, cyclists were romping through the country on the Tour of Belize, but that event has been shelved for this year. So corporate sponsors have brought back the Valentine’s Classic. The race starts on Sunday morning in San Ignacio for elite riders who first have to trek to Benque and then head all the way back to the city. For juniors and female cyclists – it starts at Central Farm. Spokesman for the Cycling Association Kwame Scott told us it’s an important warm up for the Cross Country.

Kwame Scott,
“As you notice this race starts in the hills, it starts in San Ignacio goes all the way to the Benque Border and then back to Belize City. We will be crossing most of the higher peaks on the Western Highway, only that we are crossing one way. It is very important because racing miles are very important and in addition to the regular Saturday races, this is definitely a great Sunday ride for each and every rider wishing to compete and complete and try to win the Cross Country Race.”

Jules Vasquez,
Do you think that being that it involves all the way to Benque, those hills and then the noon Cayo hills, do you think that some of the cyclists will be bawling out there on the road?

Kwame Scott,
“Definitely. Jules I can’t let the cat out of the bag totally but the race will be live on Love FM and some of the mercenaries are coming to Belize for the first time, those are the foreigners, and we have checked their statistics and their background and we should be in for a treat on Sunday.”
