But one cyclist who won’t be lining up is a man who would have been a finish line favourite, Marlon Castillo. Last night we told you that Marlon Castillo’s cycling calendar for this year has been cut short. That is because on his way back from Thursday morning’s “speed ride” – Castillo was cooling down when he touched the back wheel of another cyclist. That sent him tumbling over his handle; when he landed on the pavement where he broke his collar bone. It is a serious injury which means the 21 year old Castillo won’t be able to ride for the rest of the cycling calendar – or at least not the Cross Country. He went for a check up at the hospital today and his team manager says his collar bone was fractured in six places.

Santino Castillo, Team Manager
“It is broken actually in six different fragmentations and doctor said that’s it for the season fro 2009. He will check it again in a month and he said that Marlon would have to be superhuman to in a month for him to see good healing for him to even recommend him riding his bicycle again. Of course by that time it will be like three weeks to Cross Country. So basically we are writing off the season for Marlon. He was definitely my go to guy for Cross Country, the number one go to guy with Greg Lovell being second, so the team will now have some very big shoes to fill.”

Marlon Castillo, Injured
“I am disappointed bad because I put in all of this training, Mr. Santino himself had me in a program, and that just gone to waste and all the physical workouts gone just like that.”
