Summertime means plenty of camps will be happening around the country for children on vacation.

One such camp is the 9th annual Belize City Summer program which caters to students going into infant 1 straight through to standard 5. The main objective of the camp is to give the students a head start for the upcoming school year. 7news spoke with camp organizer, Peter Lacey.

Peter Lacey, Camp Organizer

"There are both programs, one will be running in Belize City at Holy Redeemer Parish Hall and the next program which is in Orange Walk Town is at St. Peter's Anglican school. These summer programs are for pre-school graduates going into infant 1 and all the way up to standard 5 going into standard 6."

"We are offering reading, phonics, creative writing, math, PSE preparation for the standard 6 students only and we are also doing some sports as well."

"For the Belize City program at Holy Redeemer, its July 2nd to August 3rd and in Orange Walk its July 4th to August 3rd. The cost of the program is $60 and the registration to get into the program is next week Thursday, Friday and Saturday - that is June 28, 29 and 30 at Holy Redeemer Parish Hall and simultaneously at St. Peter's Anglican School."

"The whole objective of the program is to serve as a bridge from the end of the school year to the beginning of the school year to keep children sharp and to prepare them giving them a head start for the upcoming school year."
