Last night at twenty minutes to ten - the entire country was pitched into a blackout. The cause was a lightning strike on the transmission line between Dangriga and La Democracia.
That was preceded by a critical fault on the Mexican line, and followed by a failure at the Westlake Gas turbine, plus BELCOGEN was down, leaving it to the hydroelectric facilities to bring everything back up.
That's a slow process and power could not be restored to all areas until 2:00 this morning - after the Mexican line came back up.
