For the past 2 weeks, 29 police officers have been participating in a training course on basic investigation protocols and procedures, organized by the US Embassy.
These officers come from various units such as the Crimes Investigation Branch, the Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking Units, and the Anti-gang Taskforce.
To mark the conclusion of the course, the Embassy and the Department's high command hosted a graduation ceremony at the Queen Street Police Station. 7News stopped by to find out more about how the participants are being better equipped to perform competent investigations.
Here's what the organizers told us:
Thirty officers will be selected from among those who have completed the course to undergo further training.
This training has been completed by a little more than 80 Belizean investigators so far.
