And while they're restructuring that debt, the government also brought a loan motion of six million US dollars to support tertiary education. According to the PM, the loan will be funded by the CDB and distributed through DFC.
And while any project that makes tertiary education more accessible for Belizean students may sound like a good one, the leader of the opposition pointed out that those in very low income households may still not be able to access the loans. Additionally, he added that, in his calculations, there has not been a single House Meeting where a loan motion was not presented.
The interest cost for DFC would be roughly 3.5% per annum, and the repayment will be over a period of 17 years.
