And while the PM says they are working on it - as they say, "while di grass di grow di horse di starve" - or in this case, moving to greener pastures.

Caliz says teachers not receiving their increments creates a domino effect that is impacting the entire education system to the point that the love for the profession is not enough for them to continue to work as teachers. Caliz says too many teachers are leaving.

Nadia Caliz, BNTU, President

"Right now this is not a union cause we are only the force behind it this is a national issue. Education is at stake. This is bigger than teachers just getting their increments. You are looking at service providers becoming discouraged. Who will be there to educate them? Who? it's bigger."

"Marisol, education is at risk in this country. Teachers are leaving like never before there are still empty classrooms in this country and in order for those students to get quality education you find that these classes are divided and in some instances there is nobody there. None. Now why is it that we have teachers leaving? Because of all of these nuances so either you fix it and bring love back to the profession or you continue to allow it but I am telling you come 2025. I am talking about September 2025 I am not saying the BNTU will wait until then. I am just looking at the New School year. They will have some challenges because a number of them have expressed to us that they are leaving education so who will be here? Who will be in the country now to educate the nation's future? Who?"
