On Friday we brought you the story of a developer's incursion into the Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary. Today, we found out that it's worse than that.
Head of the Department of Environment, Ismael Fabro told us that the development is proceeding without any environmental clearance and the department has issued a cessation order. The developer did not get an environmental impact assessment before the work began and did not comply with the environmental regulations required for a project of that scale. He further added that it is likely that the project is responsible for the damage to the nearby Black Creek that runs immediately behind the development.
Documents obtained by 7NEWS show that the company behind the outlaw project is Belize crocodile and reptile breeders limited, whose Chairman is Luke Espat.
