Over the next week, 65 members of Birdlife International Partnership will be in Belize attending the fourth annual meeting. Representation comes from just about every country in the western hemisphere to discuss birds, their habitats and their relationship with humans. As it is being held in Belize, the host organization is Belize Audubon Society, and the NGO's Nellie Catzim says that this event helps to highlight the work being done here by our local organizations.

"Its really to share experiences within the partnership. Like I said before it's a global partnership and we have partners throughout the world and our focus for this partnership meeting is on finding a balance between people and the environment. The focus of Birdlife International, although the name is all about birds, its really as an indicator. Although birds for many people are just pretty things, for us in conservation it really is an indicator of the health of the environment. For the week we will be covering different thematic areas and it ranges from sustainable livelihoods which is actually the focus of this partnership meeting but it also focuses on particular species and also habitats. So its all about where they live and the areas that we need to protect."

The 4th Birdlife International Partnership meeting continues until Friday of this week.
