The controversial Ara Macao Project: the Prime Minister says he's all for it and, apparently, so is the National Environmental Appraisal Committee. The NEAC, as it is called, met yesterday morning in Belmopan and just about approved the project. We say "just about" because there are still a couple details that need to be tied down but right now NEAC, as we understand it, is leaning heavily towards approval. That's because the developers, who were on-hand and available to the council reportedly committed to putting down one million dollars as a surety bond; that is a surety against any environmental damages to the Placencia peninsula. We are informed that only representatives for 9 of 11 member agencies of NEAC attended the meeting and only two of them voted against it, with two abstentions.
