Green Tropics is the Spanish investor that ran afoul of the Departments of Forestry, the Environemnt and Geology when they dug a massive canal through a wildlife sanctuary.
And now, the company that wants to invest 90 million US dollars in a sugar plantation, sugar mill and processing facility will have to wait a few more weeks before they get the green light to continue with its plans.
Chief Forest Officer Wilber Sabido today confirmed that they are comprising a multi-disciplinary team to do a damage assessment - which may take four weeks. Add that to the fact that the team is still not fully comprised, and uyou'll know that Green Tropics will be grounded for a while!
And they're in it for at least a six figure punishment as well. The company has reportedly agreed to pay the maximum one hundred thousand dollars environmental fine - and will also have to pay for the quote, "complete remediation" of the Biological Corridor - which means making it look like that canal was never there.
We'll let you know when that team is ready to start its work...
