Tonight, there is more blowback from Boiton Minerals activities in the Chiquibul. As we told you yesterday, the Friends for Conservation and Devleopment, which co manages the Chjiquibul National Park put out a dire release saying that Boition's works have already caused irreversible damage and a threatening the headwaters f the Chiquibul.

Well, tonight the Belize Progressive Party is backing them up. A release saying, quote, "As we watch the destruction of our land and water at the hands of this company, it is downright appalling that the lawyer for this company presumes to lecture the co-manager, Friends for Conservation and Development, the organization that continues to lead the fight to protect this precious forest. We, the BPP, call on all the Ministers and the technical officials in Ministries of Natural Resources and Environment to stop this company's arrogant and callous behavior." end quote.

In a lengthy, late evening release, Boiton Minerals Limited says the Belizean public is not getting the true picture about its project which, quote, "is meant to improve Belize's economy, produce Foreign Exchange and provide many jobs."

The release says that many of the trails it opened are old logging roads that recently cleared which is permitted under their license. It stresses, quote, "BML has built no new road and certainly no new road at the highest point of any mountain." End quote.

Reports say a joint release form Forestry and the Mining and Petroleum department should be forthcoming.
