All this week, we've been bringing you nightly coverage of COP-26, or the Conference of Parties, which is being held in Glasgow, Scotland.
As we've told you, the Conference of Parties is the world's largest climate change conference. At this 26th edition of the conference, climate justice advocates have been putting loads of pressure on governments to honor the commitments they made in Paris, back in 2015.
And, the experts say that humanity has only 9 more years to take decisive action and implement the Paris Treaty, or else the planet's climate will start to become far more hostile than it already is.
Our Cherisse Halsall is on assignment at COP-26, and yesterday, she and other members of the Belizean media had an encounter with Dr. Colin Young, the Executive Director of the Caribbean Community Climate Change Center. He said that the 5Cs has been activated by the CARICOM Heads Of Government to prepare the Caribbean leaders for all the complex negotiations that happen at the Conference. Here's how he explained their role:
Dr. Colin Young - Executive Director, Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre
"The Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre, 5Cs, one of the key roles that we have, given by mandates from all of the Heads of CARICOM Governments, is to coordinate the region's position on climate change, especially at the negotiations. So, what we've been doing - our work actually started 6 months ago in terms that we bring the negotiators together across the region. We bring the ministers who are responsible for climate change together, and they provide updates to ministers as to what our positions ought to be when we come to the COP so that we come united."
"CARICOM in itself is not a negotiating body within the COP. We negotiate as part of a group call the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), but there are 15 countries that form part of AOSIS. So, we have a big voice in that group."
