A coalition of 12 conservation groups wrote to the Prime Minister last week asking him to intervene and suspend all Environmental Impact Assessments currently in process - including and especially the one for Waterloo Developments at the Port of Belize.
But, the Prime Minister hasn't answered and, for the time being at least, the EIA process for Waterloo proceeds with public consultations scheduled for Thursday night.
The letter from the coalition urgently reminded the Prime Minister of the government's international commitments when it signed unto the Blue Bond where it agreed to not approve any EAI;s for new developments within the Belize Barrier Reef System until the EAI act was updated.
The coalition is asking the PM to pause those EIA's until that update is completed.
But, there's no answer from the PM who is said to be on "duty leave" until the 5th September - though it's not clear whether that means he is on or off duty.
