We also asked the Prime Minister to discuss what he saw when he and NEMO Minister "Landy" Habet went for a fly-over assessment of the areas most impacted by the storm.
He said that he saw a lot of people's homes with missing roofs. Here are those comments.
Daniel Ortiz
"What can you tell us about that trip?"
John Briceno - Prime Minister
"Well, it confirmed what we thought, that it was bad. We took a fly-over of Belize City. We saw a lot of roofs and some houses that were damaged. We saw some areas that still had some flooding, especially in Belama Phases 4 and 5. We still have water in those areas. We went into Ladyville, [which] also got substantial damage, also Lords Bank, Hattieville, and then after that, it's mostly agriculture. We flew all the way over from Santander. We have several hundreds of acres of cane land that have been leveled by the hurricane. So, we are grateful - and also thankful - that most of the water has run out of Belize City, despite the tremendous amount of flooding that we had. Pretty much the whole city was underwater for a number of hours, but the water pretty much receded."
The conservative estimate at this time is that about 200 families suffered some degree of damage to their homes - which based on what we have seen, we would call, VERY conservative.
