For most residents, the Easter holiday has already begun since most offices closed their doors at midday. Many of those traveling have already hit the road, getting ready for the next four days of relaxation.
But for one of the most popular destinations, they're having a major water crisis. Since this morning, Caye Caulker residents have been complaining that taking a shower feels more like swimming in the sea. They say they can't use the water for anything because it's just too salty.
This afternoon, BWS put out a release in which they stated that there was a malfunction at their treatment plant which has caused the salinity level to go above the normal threshold.
In the release, BWS said the issue should have been resolved by midday today, but up until earlier this afternoon, we were still getting complaints of salty water. BWS also advised customers that they can expect low water pressure until midnight tonight, which will be followed by a full interruption from 12am to 5am. This is necessary for BWS to properly restore water supply to all Caye Caulker residents.
So those hotel and restaurant owners will have to wait and hope their water comes back to normal before the locals and tourists start flooding the island.
