A release issued today by the Friends for Conservation and Development details a disturbing discovery that was made in the country's largest reserve.

While conducting one of its regular flyovers, the FCD team noticed that an illegal road had been made starting from a village in Dolores Peten, extending 1.4km into the park.

FCD notes that this is a newly man made road given that the previous fly overs did not pick it up.

Their release further states "This road may well be designed for the provision and access for water resulting in an expansion of the (illegal) cattle ranching activity in the southern region of the Chiquibul National Park."
