So, that was the outcome in Belmopan where the PUP won the full slate with 57% of the vote.
So, what does that mean for John Saldivar? The UDP City Council slate led by Jackie Burns ran, essentially, on his record.
That was one subject his party leader did not want to touch today:
Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
"I know where we need to go. It is 16 seats. I know how we need to do that. We need to cut the fat. We need to stop extending ourselves to everyone. Everyone cannot win. We need to focus on the 18 that can win and we need to pour the resources there."
Jules Vasquez
"Is John Saldivar one of those 18?"
Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
"I'm not going to get into who is the one of those 18."
Jules Vasquez
"In a message to your party today, you said that we need to finetuned and the only adjustment you spoke of was one in Belmopan. Can John Saldivar and Shyne Barrow's ascendant, you say UDP coexist?"
Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
"Explain to me..."
Jules Vasquez
"Is there, I'm saying that you said there needs to be an adjustment in Belmopan. Does that adjustment mean that John Saldivar has to go? They campaigned on his record."
Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
"I don't know what message you saw, internal messages are internal messages."
Jules Vasquez
"You know which one I saw, Mr. Barrow. You sent a message to your party this morning saying victory is at hand."
Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
"Yes, I do believe that, again..."
Jules Vasquez
"But you said in there about adjustment. Let's keep it to the adjustment. What's your adjustment in Belmopan, sir?"
Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
"We are going to discuss that as a party."
Jules Vasquez
"But I am just saying to you, is it time to cut ties with John Saldivar?"
Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
"I appreciate the hard work that Jackie Burns and John Saldivar did in Belmopan. I appreciate the hard work that all of our municipal slates and standard bearers did. Extreme congratulations and appreciation for Mayor Trapp."
"And we will have a post-mortem in about 14 days. That is the required time. We have house meeting Friday, tomorrow, budget debate. So within 14 days we'll have the post-mortem. We need to get all the data."
"Please share everything that you have with me. And we will look very carefully at everyone. And tough decisions need to be made."
Jules Vasquez
"Is this election outcome a referendum, finally, on the viability of John Saldivar as a constituency candidate for the UDP?"
"I know he won a convention, it was a smashing success, but finally now we have an open election where PUPs and UDP can vote and the people spoke, they campaigned on his record. Is it a referendum on him?"
Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
"We as a party will have to sit down and discuss this matter and make difficult decisions and look at everything honestly. As leader I have to assess myself and make sure that I am moving in the correct direction."
"I do believe moving forward as a party, because it's not just me, as a party we need to say to each other, brother, sister, your chances of winning are not as good or great as some of our other brothers and sisters. That is the fact."
"We've seen what happens when we stretch and try to grab everything Please sister and brother. Let us focus the resources on those that can win."
