A dozen Scarlet Macaws have joined the others in Belize's Chiquibul Forest after they were released this morning. They were extracted from the wild by the Friends for Conservation and Development because they were either at risk of not surviving or of being poached. And for the past decade, the FCD has traversed the forest and rescued chicks in hopes of taking this species out of the endangered zone. Courtney Menzies was there this morning as this latest flock of macaws took flight for the first time. Here is that story.
