And in one final bit of utility news, he was the man who once promised that an energy ship with 80 megawatts of electricity would pull up to Belize's coast, plug in and cover Belize's electricity generation shortfalls.
Well, that never happened - but today the PM spoke about bigger innovations including solar panels over the hydro dam reservoirs and a massive rubber dam. Here's. How he put it:
John Briceno, Prime Minister
"We've been working on a project where I think we are going to be able to get that grant, to be able to use the dam, the water itself, to be able to put solar panels on top of the dam. And so they'll be able to, then you have water and solar for about 15MW. Next, another issue that we just discussed with the Vice President for Fortis is that there is this new technology where you put a rubber wall. So what you do, we're thinking of doing it on Mollejon because that is better suited to hold back more water so that when it rains a lot, this you have like a rubber wall that goes up a certain amount, not too high, but a certain amount. So then it could hold back even more water to be able to produce more energy. There are a number of things that you want to put in place to be able to try to mitigate that as best as we possibly can, the challenges of climate change."
We'll let you know when those are installed.
