A potentially dangerous situation unfolded this morning after a Liquefied Petroleum Gas truck overturned along the Hopkins Road.
At approximately 8:40 a.m. authorities received reports that an LPG truck belonging to Lucas Gas Company had flipped while heading toward Hopkins Village. A fire truck was immediately dispatched, and responders found a white 2014 GMC truck lying on its left side on the roadside, heavily leaking liquefied petroleum gas, creating a serious safety hazard.
Police at the scene confirmed that the driver had already been transported to the hospital by ambulance. Fire personnel quickly sprang into action, deploying a hose line and approaching the overturned vehicle with caution.
Officers checked and shut off all valves to contain the leak. One damaged valve without a handle required the use of vice-grip pliers to secure it, successfully stopping the gas flow. Preliminary investigations indicate that the truck ran off the right-hand side of the road, re-entered the roadway, and then overturned on the left-hand side. The exact cause of the accident remains unclear.
