Cuba is in the midst of a deep economic and energy crisis. Widespread fuel shortages and tightening U.S. sanctions have sharply reduced oil imports, triggering chronic power outages, service disruptions, and garbage piling up in cities as sanitation trucks have no fuel to operate. Hospitals are struggling with long blackouts and limited fuel, and basic services such as water pumping and food distribution are severely affected. The crisis has prompted international concern and on Sunup today, policy analyst Dylan Vernon explained his campaign to create awareness of a blockade which could affect any country that goes against the US:

Dylan Vernon, Policy Analyst

"Imagine a situation that's not impossible, that the Cuba regime falls and there's even more of a triumphal feeling in the US that we've done this, we've always wanted to do this. What will make them stop there in terms of imposing their view of how the region should be when it comes to political parties, when it comes..."

"I mean, right now, the best friends of the United States are whom Argentina and El Salvador. Why? Because they are ran by authoritarian leaders who basically tow the U.S. line and do Trump-like things."

"They want that almost in every country in the region. And they're going to, as they have done in the history of the world, try to do that. So we're not immune from that. We're not immune from that at all."

"And along the way, what dies, what gets threatened, are these very international principles of non-intervention, self-determination that are our sort of means of survival as a small state."
