Over the past three years, the Medical Care Missionary Group out of Oakland, California has been helping out the KHMH with medical equipment. Today it was sort of like a doctor's follow up. The group today visited Belize to check up on how previous donations are working and to augment the existing donations.
"This is our third time coming back. When we first came we brought a lot of mechanical ventilators so that babies could be on ventilators and the ventilators could breathe for them. Now we come back and bring back additional equipment so that the ventilators work even better. As the technology gets better in Untied States, we bring down that technology here and we teach the nurses and doctors to use them."
Hospital authorities report that previous donations of respirators to the pediatric section of the KHMH have increased the survival rate of premature babies by at least 80%.
