Young Soldier Takes His Life

A young Belize Defense Force (BDF) soldier killed himself this afternoon and tonight his family wonders why. According to media reports from Orange Walk, this afternoon his wife found 20-year-old Luis Alberto Castellanos hanging from a beam inside the family's home in Yo Creek Village. Minutes earlier Castellanos had been with his wife and in-laws. He reportedly told his wife he loved her and then kissed the couple's two-year-old son. He went home and when his family arrived, music was playing and Castellanos was in a locked room. His family suspects Castellanos killed himself because he was depressed after he blew his entire salary in one day. We couldn't determine when Castellanos joined the BDF.
