A villager from San Pedro in the Corozal District died after a tree crushed him. On Sunday morning, 52-year-old Castantino Savala took his 14-year-old son Martin to an area known as Sapote to clean it for milpa farming. Using a power saw, Savala had partially cut down a tree, but before it fell he went around it to clear the area where it was going to fall. That turned into a tragic mistake as the tree then fell on him. His son raised the alarm, but by the time help arrived, the elder Savala was dead. Savala was taken to the Corozal Hospital and later transferred to the KHMH where he died.
