A 10-year-old boy from Bella Vista Village in the Stann Creek District has been at the KHMH for the past 29 days suffering from burns to 80% of his body. Darwin Cruz was admitted to the KHMH after he was brought in from the Dangriga Hospital with burns to almost his entire body. The 10 year old was injured when a gallon of gasoline exploded right next to him. Now the family with the help of the Rotary Club in Belize is trying to fly him out to Shriner's Burn Hospital for children in Galveston Texas but the transportation is extremely expensive. Here's how you can help.

Darwin Cruz,
[Translation] "There was a smoke that turned into fire and it caused a gallon of gasoline to exploded and fire fell all over him. Maybe he'll need skin graphs because his entire body is disfigured. The skin graph cannot be done here and the treatments are very expensive too. I'm condemned because we don't have any money the plane is charging $31,000, US$15,000. We have an organization that is helping us to take him to the U.S. they are the Rotary Club of Belize now we are asking people, companies, whoever can help us because it will be difficult to raise that money.

Right now we are processing to see if we can take him out to the U.S. because the hospital has done everything it can do for him so I think we have to take him out to the u.s. tomorrow I think."

Darwin is expected to be flown to Shriner's Hospital tomorrow morning but the cost of the transportation is only being covered through an overdraft at the Belize Bank through an account called the Burn Victim Mercy Fund. Anyone who would like to help in anyway can do so by contacting Yvette Burks at Belize Emergency Response Team or through the Belize Bank account number 505-2111.
