In June 2017, the Western Regional Hospital got a brand new Accident and Emergency room. It was built under the US funded project Beyond the Horizon. Well, that new wing has finally been connected to the original hospital. This is a major improvement as it will make the flow and traffic of patients going in to that area much easier. We were there for the official opening.

"As you can see this is the entrance, we have two areas that will do the triage when the patients come in. We have 4 rooms where the patients will be placed at. You can see the nurses have a better monitoring for the patients and we have one area which is a new area that we are doing now it is the OBGYN area for the women who are pregnant would be there to be triaged before and if anything is in complication."

"We saw the need to expand our services because the statistics show that we have gone from 400 to 500 consultations at accident and emergency to approximately 800 patients being seen on a monthly basis. That triggered the urgency to expand services but not only the expansion way of doing it but the betterment of those services offered provided, thus the reason we are at this point of the venture."

As you heard, there has been an increase in patients using that area. Dr. Godoy says it is due to an increase in road traffic accidents on the nearby highways and an increase in patients suffering from hypertension and diabetes among other factors.
