So, the new, stricter COVID regulations come into effect on Sunday December 20 - and the main trigger for them is the continuing sharp increase in COVID cases and deaths over the past few months.

2 new deaths, both males, were recorded today. 5 people are still in the ICU, and 42 are still hospitalized.

Today's number of new cases stands at 138. On the other hand, recoveries surpass this number, at 161. Recovery percentage is 82.7, due to the new protocol that a person is considered to have recovered 14 days after infection.

Out of the new cases identified, 48 of them were discovered in the Cayo District. Belize and Orange Walk both had 20 and Corozal had 19.

There are 1,500 active cases, and the total numbers of deaths are 215. Our case fatality rate is at 2.17%. We are nearing the 10,000 mark on total confirmed cases as we currently stand at 9929.
