And while the mayor says Nan Cheng was only working for two weeks, the Ministry of Human Development is working to get out the grocery bags… but only for two more months!

Earlier this week you heard Minister Dolores Balderamos-Garcia saying that, "everybody kyaahn get grocery bags", but those that do get will only be receiving up until March. And while you might think that's not a lot of grocery bags for households that can't put food on the table, well, the Minister said she hopes that one day they won't have to provide any at all.

Hon. Dolores Balderamos-Garcia, Minister of Human Development
"Let me answer like this I would really hope that we can soon get to the day when we don't have to be giving out grocery bags, however, that said I want to assure you that we are committed to taking the food assistance program through to the end of the financial year and although we may not be able to help as many people as we'd like we will try to focus, as I said earlier this week on the poorest of the poor and the people who need it the most."

"I'm sure that I have C.E.O's blessing to say that our Ministry staff is working overtime to make sure that we can come up with the lists. We roll it out so that at least 3 to four times by the end of March. We are committed, after that that is something that I'll have to look to my right but we are committed to taking it through until the end of March absolutely."

We note that the grocery bag and food assistance program - which came up after COVID - have now been merged into one.
