Campos is a four term former mayor and is certainly well known in the Bay - where he will face off against an as yet unspecified PUP candidate.

But, after the now deceased David Dido Vega won by a large margin in November - conventional wisdom would say that the voters will stay the court with the PUP - who still have a full term ahead of them.

We challenged the UDP party leader with this wisdom - against his party's hopes of stealing a few wins in the March municipals and Corozal Bay bye election:

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"Speaking in general about these upcoming elections both the bi-election and the municipal elections that voters are above all - practical and they know that with a blue administration in Belmopan one only votes red as protest vote. I'm just saying that it's not a practical thing to vote UDP in March of 2021."

Hon. Patrick Faber, Leader of the Opposition
"Was it a practical thing for them to do that in 2018 3 years before the end of the term of the UDP? But they did. While the UDP may have been defeated soundly in the last election, the UDP did not die and our goal is to contest all elections. I hear some people talking nonsense about maybe the UDP - well we are not in the business of sitting out any election. We are a political party. We have to be ready to govern at all levels at all times. In fact in those areas where we have councils already we expect them to be returned."
