And while the infant's family hopes for the best, the Ayuso family, also in Orange Walk, lost their loved one about 10 days ago to the virus.
The victim was a relative of Prime Minister Briceno and today, as the PM was at a function in his hometown, he reflected on the death, and others that have been victims of COVID.
He added that the only way to beat the virus and return to normalcy is to get vaccinated.
Hon. John Briceno, Prime Minister
"Just about 2 weeks ago I lost a friend Freddy Ayuso, a cousin of mine. Apparently when he died they did an autopsy and found out that he had Covid and so Covid is still around and If we want to have a better Christmas that last year, please get vaccinated. We are getting the vaccines and pretty soon it will be making an announcement of another huge donation of vaccinations that we are getting and that we will be able to continue aggressively get as many people as possible vaccinated. Without the vaccination we cannot live life the way it was before and that's the reality. So again, I urge everybody to please get vaccinated."
The PM has gotten his first dose so far, and will go for his second in a few weeks.
