But while he claims the PUP isn't focusing on the UDP, up until a few weeks ago, much of their energies - both politically and governmentally - were focussed on the unions.
And after months of labour agitation with protests and strikes, they've been pretty quiet. It's unusual for the unions to back down from a fight against the government so easily, but the PM isn't celebrating just yet.
In fact, he said it's only a win if they can work with the unions.

"We weren't in negotiations; we were in consultations and there is nothing about victory for anybody. At the end of the day both sides we are trying to do what is best in our minds for the Belizean people. I am grateful that the unions decided to give us an opportunity. Yes, they pushed and they tried as best as they can to represent their constituents which is the membership of the unions and we understand that and I respect that. But I do appreciate at the end of the day they decided to say well let's give it a chance. As I tell everybody all of us are in this thing together, we either swim together or we sink together and I am looking and doing everything possible that we can swim together towards the shore where we can have better opportunities for everyone."

"I believe the teachers have filed a claim and they are focusing on their individual contracts in terms of fighting the salary cut. Has your legal team advised you on that?"

"We are taking a look at all of that. I believe we got good legal advice as to how were going to go about doing that and so it's their right if they want to go to the courts and if they do then we will go and also represent our part and to defend the position that we took."
