And what about those suffering from COVID here in Belize?
Well, the Minister of Health today said that the team advising his Ministry is made up of veteran professionals and that, even with spiking Covid numbers, he claims they have the matter well in hand.
Cherisse Halsall:
"Who is the technical team currently advising the Ministry, who are they, and do they include any doctors from public health?"
Hon. Michel Chebat, Minister of Health and Wellness
"They include a whole bunch of doctors, you have Dr. Melissa Diaz, Dr. Victor Rosado, you have Dr. Marcelo Coyi, Dr. Andre Sosa, Dr. Bradley, Dr. Arriaga, Dr. Cob, Dr. Hidalgo and the list goes on."
"The office of the DHS is being ran by Dr. Murray who is the deputy director of health services. Miss Lorna Perez has now retired, we are looking for a replacement for her, but we have an entire epidemiology unit and so we just don't rely on one person. We have already gotten a surveillance officer Miss Fernandez should be reporting to work on the 1st September, we're good, there's nothing to worry about."
Today's Cabinet brief announced that so far this year the virus has claimed 63 lives, six in the past week alone and is, quote, "putting a strain on the health system."
Chebat also announced two new categories of essential workers saying that from now that designation will include both post office workers and Port employees will have to get the jab or face those COvid rapid tests every two weeks.
