Yesterday, the KHMH went through a spin cycle that saw the new CEO-designate Mike Tewes turned to toast before tea-time.
And how do we know he had been selected as CEO? Well, we asked the Minister of Health, Michel Chebat about the selections, he never denied it and defended what he said was a board decision.
That was at about 3:30 pm - but by 5:55 pm - Tewes was CEO no more. The KHMH sent out a press release saying that the position for CEO had not been filled. So what happened between 3:30 and 5:00 pm to make that sudden reversal? Well, it seems when word got out that Tewes, a veterinarian, would be leading the nation's national referral hospital, we're told the hospital's nurses flatly rejected it and said they would go on strike if he took over. Also, the KHMH union threatened their own walk out. This was communicated to the Prime Minister John Briceno, who, sources suggest, had to personally get involved to basically countermand the board's decision on Tewes and get a reset.
Now, it is unclear who will take over - and we know there was only one other applicant for the post, Chandra Cansino, who is currently the manager of Corporate And Customer Relations at the Social Security Board. She is also the Prime Minister's in-law.
It makes for an interesting mix of power dynamics - and we'll see what happens next at KHMH - which has had an acting CEO since mid-June.
