And this continuing increase in numbers has forced what many have been saying for weeks is inevitable: the US Centers for Disease Control has raised its Travel Alert rating for Belize to a "LEVEL 4" meaning, quote, "Very High Level of COVID-19 in Belize".

The alert tells travellers to "avoid travel to Belize "due to the "risk of getting and spreading COVID-19 variants."

In the Caribbean, Saint Kitts and Nevis and Grenada were also raised to level 4, while Jamaica was elevated last week.

While neither unexpected nor unprecedented, the warning could put a deep chill on winter travel to Belize if numbers continue to increase into late October.
