On Saturday, bus commuters were shocked when a Westline bus failed to stop at its designated parking spot and instead crashed into the metal gate and slammed into a desk at the Belmopan terminal. According to the Minister of Transport, the bus had a brake failure. In a Facebook post, he said, quote, "as we are cracking down, operators may feel we are against them, this is the eventuality. That's why we will implement an inspection station and other measures at the Department of Transport." End quote.

Today he told us more after the House Meeting:

Hon. Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Transport

"In anything that you try to accomplish you will have oppositions. Nobody will be happy with you and they will oppose you. But I think after the incident on Saturday, I think most Belizeans recognize that what we are saying must come to fruition. We must find a solution and even when we present our plan to the operators, we are saying that if we get a but maybe 2005, that bus can only be on the road until 2015. After 2015 it got to go."

One woman was injured in the accident - she is in a stable condition.
