While Senior Counsels Dean Barrow and Godfrey Smith were arguing in Orange Walk Town, the OW Central representative Prime Minister John Briceno was in the House of Representatives for a Special Sitting.
Later on, we'll tell you about some of the important House business that was addressed during that 4-hour meeting. But first, the Prime Minister spoke to the press after the House Meeting. We asked him about the legal fight between the Caribbean International Brewery Company and the Financial Intelligence Unit.
According to Dean Barrow, the beer company's attorney, if this prosecution against them fails, CIB limited will have reason to sue the Government for a major award of damages. So, what does the PM think? When we asked him about it, the PM was very curt on this possibility:

"The attorney representing the company is insisting from this early stage that if this prosecution backfires, it will have a terrible price to pay for tax payers and the government of Belize."
Hon. John Briceno, Prime Minister
"I can't comment on a matter that's in court as you know and I had no idea that they were going to go and do any kind of inspection in that area. That does not come to me. The FIU is totally independent of the prime minister's office, so I would not comment on something like that."
