And while the issues at the KHMH have now been brought brusquely to the frontburner, the broader issue of a scarcity of medical supplies is bedeviling the entire public healthcare system.
When pressed this morning the minister said that while the meds are late, they are here. He alluded to factors beyond the ministry's control but did not mention tendering process that started very late:
Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health and Wellness
"We are working on it on that. In fact, KHMH is receiving medical supplies and pharmaceuticals as we speak. From the past two weeks, they have been getting know there are certain factors that were beyond our control. We can't we can't we can't change that. But these the suppliers are receiving stuff. Then we as we receive them, there's a process now we cannot issue medication because the supplier receive it in country today. Tomorrow it goes out. We have to inspect it takes a process and we to that we this inspection are done so that we know that the supplier is bringing the right medication that that was tendered and that people are getting the correct medical medicine that was approved to be brought in."
