And while Minister Bernard consults with the Ministry of Finance he'll have to ask them to come up with funds for the KHMH's urgently-needed CT Scan machine.
As you heard earlier, public patients are forced to get private scans at double the cost.
This, after the Board put it out to open tender, and received bids but still could not decide on a new CT scan.
Now, because of the board's failure, it's fallen to the Ministry of Health.
It's yet another fix that Bernard told the press he's working on:
Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health and Wellness
"We have stepped in and we have written to the contractor general to for us to ensure that we go to a selective bidding process, because it's urgent that we get the CT scan for each image. And I said, just as I have said before, we are going to ensure that that CT scan comes to consider the ministry will find the funding for us to be able to give that to this country to to to image. I believe that people that goes to our public facilities are the ones that really cannot afford. And so we have to get those servicing services provided by getting a mean referral hospital. And I guarantee the young people I call again on the contractor general for us to end the bureaucracy and let's get the process done. We have done what we need to do. We have submitted what we need to submit. We cannot continue to hold back the process and we need to get that CT scan procured board installed on top so that we can start to provide the service to the Belizean people."
