"Shilling water", it's a staple of the Belizean economy, the most affordable product that quenches the thirst of even those living in the lowest income bracket.

It means that these still circulating single-use plastic receptacles are, for many, the primary vessel by which to access a primary human need and right.

But what happens when access to affordable water is threatened?

Tonight, we're showing you one viral Facebook video recorded by a man who bought two shilling water that he, fortunately, took the time to examine.

In a statement to 7News this evening Bowen and Bowen said quote: "The matter has been brought to our attention and we are investigating it, as we normally do with all such incidents. It appears to be an isolated occurrence, but we are treating it as a priority." End quote.
