Yesterday, government made a revolutionary announcement: that it had removed all fees charged in the public hospitals. So what exactly does that include? Today the Director of Health and Wellness, Dr Melissa Diaz confirmed that there will be no fees of any kind charged at polyclinics, clinics, laboratories, pharmacies and for dental services at public facilities across the country. She specified that includes fees for surgeries, deliveries, consultations, and morgue fees.
We stress though that this waiver of fees does not include the KHMH, National Health Insurance facilities and Environmental Health.
Fees that will still have to be paid include: food handlers fee, disposal of medical waste on behalf of the private sector, seaport inspection fee, and other fees that are not related to the provision of clinical care.
A statement says, quote, "By removing this potential obstacle to health care services, the MOHW has ensured that there is an increased access to health care services at all levels of care for the population that we serve."
