Tonight we continue our coverage of the events at the San Ignacio Community Hospital.
Tonight we are looking at the timeline for the official response - trying to understand what took the Minister of Health and Wellness, the government and the police so long to respond.
Jules Vasquez reports:
This was how the door of the emergency room looked after one of David Galindo's gang affiliates punched it in on Saturday June first.
There was blood everywhere and doctors had to quickly attend to the man who had just threatened their lives.
Voice of Doctor on shift:
"And there was one, this dude that we kicked out, that he punched the wall of the emergency department and the blood was all over the place."
It caused a panic in the emergency room - and the window remained like that until a few days ago when it was fixed.
In the immediate aftermath of the emergency room invasion - a meeting was held on Monday June 03rd at SICH - which is where our recording was secretly made.
Then on Tuesday - a meeting was a held at the Ministry of Health in Belmopan with Dr Jorge Polanco, the Deputy Director of Health Services.
After that 6 days elapsed before we broke the news on Sunup.
Jules Vasquez, 7News "On June 1st David Gallindo was shot he is a gang leader in Santa Elena. He died this weekend from his injuries two weeks later so it's another murder and a serious one because you know it has gang implications, that community is very scared of what will happen next. But on the night he was shot they rushed him to the San Ignacio community hospital we have pictures of the hospital and what the doctors - in their experience - they were directly threatened by members of his gang who, they were told -multiple doctors have attested to this - If you don't save this man life you will get killed."
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police "Um like I said I am just made aware of the veracity of this incident when Jules Vasquez brought it up on The Beef yesterday morning. Having heard what he said and having listened to the audio that was released from one of the doctors I saw that it is something serious and may require my input to come and address and see what we can do to address the problem."
But the Prime Minister insists he told the Commissioner before that:
John Briceno, Prime Minister
"By the time you got your video we were already acting we were already hunting down these two individuals."
Jules Vasquez: "The commissioner said he found out about it on The Beef"
John Briceno, Prime Minister
"But we did not find it out on The Beef, we did not."
Jules Vasquez: Well the commissioner (said he) got it from us
John Briceno, Prime Minister
We found it out from within the Ministry Of Health when they finally told the Ministry Of Health and as soon as they told us we found out and we acted on it and I called the commissioner and I said we need to act on this immediately we can't let these people believe that they could get away with this. 17:15
Well, that's not what the Compol said, and the Doctors told the Ministry on Tuesday June third, so why then did a whole week have to pass before
Cabinet expressed what it called "outrage" at the incident - a release that, neatly, appeared the day after we broke the story.
The Prime Minister's timeline doesn't add up - and the likely reason is that he's trying to cover up what the doctors at SICH distinctly sense: as profound lack of concern for their security and wellbeing.
Voice of Doctor on shift: "We informed our Chief of Staff, nobody showed up. We ended off our shift, and nobody showed up."
Voice of Doctor on shift: "Nobody reached out and asked "unu ok?" Anybody was hurt?"
