And, in today's Cabinet brief the outrage about the events at SICH is repeated.
Also notable is an odd bullet point which says, quote, "Cabinet gave its approval for the submission of legislation to amend the Criminal Code to criminalize the unauthorized publication, dissemination or disclosure of statements, documents, video footage, photographs, or other materials that form part of an ongoing criminal investigation that can endanger the lives of witnesses and compromise the integrity of investigations."
We don't quite know where this one is coming from - but certainly it would seem to include certain surveillance videos and documents that are regularly part of the news. In that regard, it could have a chilling effect not eh free flow of information. We will be seeking clarification from the Minister of Home Affairs.
Cabinet also supported a request by the Peoples' Constitutional Commission for a six-month extension of its work. This will extend the Commission's mandate from 15th May 2024 to 14th November 2024 to allow it to properly complete its work.
