Belize Signs MLAT With Taiwan

Belize and Taiwan have signed a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty. It was signed yesterday in Belize City by Foreign Minister Wilfred Elrington and had been previously signed by the Taiwanese Minister of Justice Ching-Hsiang Tsai.

The "M-LAT" as these agreements are known, assure both countries Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters in connection with investigations, court proceedings or prosecutions.

Belize also has an M-LAT with only one other country, and that is the United States. One was negotiated with Guatemala, but never ratified.
